Over 20 Years ago we started out with a Film Reader…
Gerardo Ferreyra was born in the mountain region of Mendoza, Argentina. He and his family were not satisfied with the difficult economic situation in his home land. So, his family decided to pack up and see what opportunities were available in the northern hemisphere
Gerardo began his educational run around the world in Salt Lake City, Utah. He started integrating with a new culture and began seeing the influence of the religious aspect of what family was. He began to see how the culture in Utah was really family oriented and how much time was devoted to family history.
The term Genealogy was introduced in his life for the first time. He found it very interesting and fit right in with the family structure he grew up in, having a tight Latino influence. He began to learn more and more about this new term and started to see how special it was to keep family traditions and family memories always present.
As Gerardo started educating himself and learning the ins and outs of how research is done, he graduated from Highschool and went on to continue his education in college. He was accepted into Utah State University and focused all his energy in reaching his goals.
At the same time, spending countless hours in every family history centers around the Salt Lake area, learning from some of the greatest Investigators in the Business. He was mentored by various individuals who shared the same passion for the work. Screening film after film, searching for documents to grow his own family tree. He spent many hours on the film readers available in the Family History Centers. He soon became the best student in the class. Learning from his mentors how to best read these films, and use his time wisely and efficiently.
He began by researching all the records he could find from Argentina and Chile as his family originated from both of these countries. He soon became and expert at not only reading the old catholic scripts used between the years of 1700 through 2000, but learned how to efficiently decipher the names which were spelled wrong 90% of the time by uneducated catholic priests and scribes.
Once he felt like he had the basics down packed, he decided to learn how to do research in the United States as well, in order to have a better over all understanding of research techniques outside of his original specialization. He then became even closer with his mentors as they showed him how to read the U.S. Census, how to find different records within the family history library, and how to pay attention to the details on how to keep track of the correct John Smith. Invaluable techniques …
After Graduating with 2 degrees from Utah State University, his Bachelor’s Degree and an Associate’s Degree, he decided he wanted to return to Argentina and begin his journey down this genealogical road! ¨Thank you, Utah, for everything, and teaching me things I would have never have come across in my home country¨. He became an onsite investigator for the most important genealogical company in the world, Legacy Tree Genealogist. This was his first professional experience in Genealogical research. This taught him the devotion a company should have when entrusted with someone else’s family tree. The passion for the work was felt, and this is something he and his team have committed themselves to show their clients, because there is nothing more important to someone than their family.
25 years after it all started, he has his own agency, has logged thousands of hours of research, and specialized his team on how to find your family members in these amazing countries of Argentina and Chile. He is grateful for all the invaluable mentoring by some great people in Salt Lake City. His mentors who have become much more than friends, and are permanently part of his family history! We try to instill this passion in every one of our projects and bring you the most detailed and concise investigation you can have. We want you to feel like you are the one actually here on the ground, turning over every stone to find the answers, and piece together your very own family history …
